Research

Introduction

Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) is mandated to conduct research for knowledge generation and use research findings to update curriculum and develop case study for utilization to conduct sessions in different courses. BPATC has been entrusted to provide consultancy to the government for policy intervention.

Member Directing Staff (Research and Consultancy) leads the Research and Consultancy Division of the Centre and performs the task under guidance of the Rector. Director (Research and Development) performs the research and development tasks under the supervision of MDS (Research and Consultancy). Deputy Director (Research), Senior Research Officer and Research Officer support Director (Research and Development) to perform his assign tasks.

Managing Research

The Research Branch manages research activities of the Centre funded by the Centre, following the guidelines of the Research Policy 2018. Research branch coordinates the whole process ranging from invitation of research proposal to submission of final research report. Research proposal select for funding by following the process and procedure of the Research Policy 2018. 

Research Committee

BPATC has a Research Committee headed by the Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, one of the Board of Governor (BOG) members of BPATC. All MDSs of BPATC are the internal members by virtue of their position and two experts, nominated by the Board of Governors, are the external members of the Research Committee. The Director (Research & Development) is the member secretary of the committee.

Conduct Research

BPATC invites research proposals and ‘call for research proposal’ is widely circulated among the Universities, Research and Training Institutions. Research areas are mostly on public administration, management, sustainable development, governance and social issues. Research Committee evaluates and recommends for funding.

Faculty Seminar

The Research Branch organises faculty seminar on the draft research proposal and final research reports those are preliminarily selected by the Research Committee to present before the Faculty Members of BPATC. 

Annual Report Preparation

Research branch is responsible to prepare Annual Report of BPATC.

Village Study of the Foundation Training Course (FTC)

Village study is mandatory for the FTC participants. Research Branch coordinates the village study programme of the FTC. The participants of the FTC usually send to Upazila to collect data through Interview and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) by using questionnaire and checklist prepared by the Research Branch. The data, after collection from the field, has been processed and analyzed for the purpose of preparation of report by the participants and/or Research Team of BPATC.

Facilitate Social Research module of FTC, ACAD and SSC

Foundation Training Course (FTC)

Research team conducts session on research methodology and train participants how to conduct research including writing research proposal, develop questionnaire for data collection, collection of data from the field, data processing and analyzing and preparation of research report.

Advanced Course on Administration and Development (ACAD)

The participants of ACAD need to prepare seminar paper on any issue relevant to their Office/ Ministry/Division. Research team assists participant as facilitator through workshop to prepare seminar proposal, collect & analyze data and prepare seminar paper.

Senior Staff Course (SSC)  

The SSC participants have to do Policy evaluation. Research team also extends support to the participants of SSC through workshop to prepare policy evaluation proposal, collect data and analyze data and prepare policy evaluation report.   

Consultancy Work

The Centre has a provision of giving consultancy services by its faculty members to meet the specific need of an organization. The involvement of faculty members in consultancy work is expected to facilitate the client organizations in improving their performance. As per the ‘Consultancy Policy-2018’ of BPATC, consultancy can be short and long-term and also can be part-time depend on the nature of the services and need of the client organization.
